Dock Removal Services Throughout Michigan

Fall dock removal timing varies by lake — northern Michigan lakes freeze weeks earlier than West Michigan. We pull docks at the right time for your specific lake, before ice sets in and causes structural damage to posts, frames, and decking.

Why Timing Matters

Leaving a dock in over winter is the single most common cause of dock damage in Michigan. Ice exerts enormous pressure on posts, frames, and decking — and on soft muck lakes, ice can lift sections, float them off-position, and deposit them dozens of feet away by spring. On hard-bottom lakes, ice locks around posts and bends or cracks them instead.

Northern Michigan lakes — Traverse City, Petoskey, Charlevoix, Torch Lake, Higgins Lake — typically need docks out by early October. West Michigan lakes like Holland's Lake Macatawa freeze later and can allow removal into late October or early November. We know the removal window for each lake we serve and schedule accordingly.

Houghton Lake

Ice is critical here — soft muck bottom allows dock sections to float 50+ feet when ice sets in. Early booking essential on this densely developed shoreline.

Higgins Lake

Hard bottom holds posts firmly — ice causes structural damage rather than floating. Freezes earlier than Houghton Lake, making timing even more critical.
