New Dock Installation for Lake St. Clair's Demanding Conditions
Lake St. Clair is one of Michigan's most active boating waters — a connecting link between Lake Huron and Lake Erie that draws serious boat traffic from the entire Detroit metro area. High-powered sportboats, large cruisers, and pontoons generate constant wake that puts real stress on dock structures throughout the summer season. Combined with Great Lakes water level fluctuation that can shift a foot or more across seasons, Lake St. Clair demands dock construction built to a higher standard than most Michigan inland lakes.
The boats docked on Lake St. Clair are also typically larger and more valuable than on northern Michigan recreational lakes. A dock that can't reliably berth a 28-foot cruiser or a 24-foot sportboat is a liability, not an asset. We design every Lake St. Clair dock around the actual boats being docked, the true depth at the property, and the wake and water-level conditions that structure will face year over year.
Dock Systems We Install on Lake St. Clair
- Heavy-duty pipe / stationary docks — reinforced framing and hardware rated for Lake St. Clair wake exposure
- Floating dock systems — adapts to Great Lakes water level variation while maintaining consistent freeboard
- Extended dock runs — sized to reach navigable depth for larger cruisers and sportboats
- Aluminum frame docks — corrosion-resistant, built for the demands of SE Michigan's high-use waterfront
- Composite and cedar decking — premium finishes appropriate for high-value waterfront properties
- Custom L, T, and U configurations — designed to maximize slip space for multiple boats
Great Lakes Water Level Variation
Unlike isolated inland lakes, Lake St. Clair's water level fluctuates with the entire Great Lakes system. Multi-year cycles driven by precipitation and evaporation patterns mean the lake can be a foot or more higher or lower than it was when a dock was originally installed. Fixed dock designs that don't account for this variation create problems at both extremes — too shallow at low water, submerged walkways at high water. We design for the full realistic range of water levels your property will experience.
Permit requirements for Lake St. Clair are handled through EGLE along with county review — Macomb County or St. Clair County depending on your location. We've completed permitting in both counties and know the documentation each requires.
